About the Buwira Clan

Learn about our rich heritage, location, and the values that unite our community across the globe.

Our Historical Origins

The name Buwira originated from Siwira who was the first Son of HALASI. Halasi was the first Son of Mwambu, and Mwambu was also the first Son of Masaba believed to have lived from Mt Masaba currently known as Mt Elgon in eastern Uganda in the 15th century.

Siwira was the father of SUSI and MASABA who lived in the 18th century. Later MASABA migrated to Ngoma hill (DRUM) and formed the current NAGUDI CLAN.

SUUSI was the father of WABUYERA, MUGGI, NANOKA AND SUSI. In these sons of SUUSI, NANOKA migrated to current BUSIU and BUSOBAafter misunderstandings with WABUYERA.

In the recent 2025 clan census, Buwira has over 2,550 persons living within and outside the clan boundaries including the Diaspora.
